LGBTQIA+ & Gender Diversity Support in Kallangur, North Brisbane
A Warm and Affirming Space
At neurothread psychology, LGBTQIA+ clients are warmly welcomed. We provide affirming, evidence-based therapy for adults and adolescents in Kallangur, Brisbane and via telehealth across Australia.
This includes support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, queer, asexual, aromantic, intersex, trans, non-binary and gender diverse clients, as well as people who are questioning or exploring their identity.
For many LGBTQIA+ people, therapy can feel vulnerable, particularly if previous experiences have involved misunderstanding, invalidation or a lack of safety.
Our approach is affirming and non-judgemental. That means your identity is not treated as a problem to be explained away or fixed. Instead, therapy creates space to support your wellbeing, make sense of your experiences, and work towards the life you want to build.
Trans, non-binary and gender diverse clients are explicitly welcome. Our Clinical Psychologist Chloe has a range of experience working with gender diverse folks including time at the QLD Health Gender Service. This means we are experienced in supporting clients through their gender-transition journey and the complexities of hormone replacement therapy whether getting support through the public or private system.
Support for Trans and Gender Diverse Clients
Gender diversity is part of the natural range of human experience. Therapy can provide support whether you are questioning your gender, exploring next steps, navigating transition, or simply wanting a space where you can speak openly without fear of judgement.
Support may include:
Identity exploration
Emotional support during social or medical transition
Navigating dysphoria
Coping with minority stress
Building self-trust and self-understanding
Support with relationships, family or workplace challenges
Processing experiences of stigma, discrimination or rejection
Sexual functioning in the context of transition
Not all therapy for trans and gender diverse clients needs to be about gender. You may also wish to work on anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence, relationships, burnout, self-esteem or broader life stressors within a space that feels safe and affirming.
LGBTQIA+SB Mental Health and Wellbeing
LGBTQIA+ people often navigate unique stressors, including discrimination, invisibility, family rejection, identity-based shame, or the impact of living in environments that do not feel safe.
Therapy may support you with:
Identity development
Shame and self-criticism
Relationships and communication
Life transitions
Boundaries and self-worth
Burnout and emotional exhaustion
Sexual functioning including chemsex and HIV support
Support is tailored to your individual context, goals and lived experience.

Yes. Trans, non-binary and gender diverse clients are warmly welcome at neurothread psychology. Therapy is affirming, respectful and grounded in the understanding that gender diversity is a valid part of human experience.

I offer affirming psychological assessments and, where clinically appropriate, readiness letters for gender-affirming care.
Some people still use the term WPATH letter to describe a support or readiness letter for gender-affirming medical care. In many cases, adults seeking hormone therapy may not need a mental health referral, as informed-consent models are increasingly used in Australia. However, many surgeons still require one or more readiness letters before gender-affirming surgery.
My approach is trans-affirming, collaborative and respectful. The purpose of assessment is not to question your identity. It is to understand your goals, support informed decision-making, and provide documentation where required and clinically appropriate.
If you are seeking a WPATH or surgical readiness letter, we can discuss your circumstances, the requirements of your treating team, and whether this service is the right fit for you.
-
No. Therapy can be a supportive space if you are questioning, exploring, or wanting room to think openly about your identity.
-
Not at all. Many LGBTQIA+ clients seek support for anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence, relationships, stress, sexual health, or other mental health concerns, while also wanting to work with a psychologist who is affirming and safe.

You can self-refer. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, Medicare rebates may apply for eligible sessions.
